What to Expect Before and After Dental Extractions
Oral surgery is another name used when it is necessary to perform a removal of tooth or tissue from the oral cavity. Tooth extraction is necessary when a tooth cannot be restored due to tooth decay, infection, fracture or bone loss. Other reasons for tooth extraction may be for orthodontic purposes and impacted wisdom teeth.
Before your extraction, we will explain what to expect in detail. For the procedure, the tooth is thoroughly numbed using a local anesthetic. You may experience some pressure during the procedure, but no pain. The tooth is then loosened in the socket and removed with forceps.
The recovery time after a dental extraction is usually a few days in the absence of any complications. You will be given post-operative instructions on how to care for the extraction site to ensure a smooth recovery.
